About the Exhibit

Game Changer: United by Sports brings to life the power of sports in bridging divides and fostering unity across cultures through rare artifacts and inspirational stories. Visitors will explore pivotal moments when sports brought our nation together, such as President Bush’s first pitch at the World Series in New York after 9/11, and learn how legendary athletes like Jesse Owens and Jackie Robinson inspired change far beyond the game.

Our new special exhibit, Game Changer: United by Sports, presented by Garry Weber, brings to life the power of sports in shaping our nation’s identity and inspiring change beyond the game through more than fifty artifacts and memorabilia – some of which have never been on display before. From Olympic gold medals to game-winning gear, each item highlights moments when sports made history as our nation took the field.

Some memorabilia on display:

  • Two of Jesse Owens’ four gold medals from the 1936 Olympics
  • Jackie Robinson’s glove, alongside the bat he swung to hit his iconic home run during the 1952 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

The George W. Bush Institute and the ONE Campaign launched More Than a Match – a new digital experience in which soccer meets trade, innovation, and opportunity. The new platform explores the story of how the continent of Africa and the three 2026 World Cup host countries – the United States, Canada, and Mexico – have a history of strong connections.

North America and Africa have a powerful relationship built through trade partnerships, educational and cultural exchanges, and innovative collaborations. More Than a Match also explores strategies for what cities, states, and provinces can do to benefit even more from their relationships with the African continent.
