Statement by President George W. Bush on Sargent Shriver
"He represented the very best of America in all his endeavors, including serving as the first director of the Peace Corps and helping his beloved Eunice to build the Special Olympics movement."
Laura and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Sargent Shriver. Mr. Shriver was a kind and compassionate man who dedicated his life to serving others. He represented the very best of America in all his endeavors, including serving as the first director of the Peace Corps and helping his beloved Eunice to build the Special Olympics movement. His remarkable legacy of service will help create a better world for generations to come.
On this sad day, we have Mr. Shriver’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.
